I’ve been learning a lot about worship the past few months.I’ve learned that it isn’t just a band singing really well with cool lights but that you can worship jesus through, art, listening prayer, just sitting with Him and having normal everyday conversation, you can worship Jesus through the way that you love others. With Jesus we have so much freedom to worship Him in so many different ways. Ultimately worship is ascribing worth to God. We can praise Him with our heart posture and setting our eyes on Him.
Here’s a few Hebrew words for praise
HALLAL – to praise, to boast, to shine: to act madly or clamorously foolish.
-
Primary root word for praise.
-
We derive the word “ Hallelujah” from this word. ( HALLAL Yahweh)
-
When we see “praise the Lord” in scripture it often comes from “ HALLAL Yahweh,”
-
Psalm 150: 1 Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise Him for His surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.
-
Are we willing to look like a fool for the glory of the Lord?
Yadah – to throw, shoot, or cast ( glory to Him); to confess, to give thanks
-
Literally translates “ open hands to God”
-
Yad – the open hand
-
Ah – God
-
The first time this word appears in scripture is in Genesis 29: 31-35 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless. Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”
-
Do we focus our attention on God when we worship? Or are we focused on ourselves or other people?
Towdah – to extend the hand in adoration, acceptance, or acknowledgment.
-
Comes from the same root word as yadah, but is used more specifically to refer to thanksgiving.
-
Psalm 42:4 these things I remember as I pour out my soul : how i used to go to the house of God under the protection of the mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. psalm 56:12 I am under vows to you, my God I will present my thank offerings to you.
-
We first see the word Towdah in Leviticus 7:11-20. In reference to the peace offering (a free will offering or praise)
-

-
Do we regularly declare victory and triumph in worship? Or is your relationship with God primarily a place to lament?
Barak- to kneel down, Bess, solute, to kneel in homage before a superior.
-
we first see this word in scripture in Genesis 1:28 God blesses Adam and Eve and does so in love and adoration of His creation who Bear His image.
-
We also see this in scripture in Genesis 24( vs. 1,11,27,31,35,48,60) in the story of Abraham’s servant to go find a wife for Isaac.
-
Do we humbly submit to God? Do we express our adoration to Him? Are we surrendered to Him in worship?
